This morning I cleaned for the second and last time the winterbarley seeds and cleaned the machinery. After that we cleaned the workshop.

In the afternoon we unmounted the whole frontloader from an old tractor to bring it to the buyer. After that I mowed the lawn and helped put a tarpaulin on the trailers full of straw, that Airton should drive tomorrow till Viborg.

In the morning we took away the cooled down barley straw bales away from the air channels and put the next 12.
Afterwards, as Knud had sold an old combine, we drove it to the buyer...The motor isn't that good anymore and smoke all the way. Airton drove the combine and I a trailer with the cutting bar on it.

In the afternoon we mounted the machinery to clean and treat (with chemical) the grains used to drill the fields. We too cleaned once about 3t of winter barley.

After a long sleeping and cleaning our flat we spent the afternoon in Grenaa. We went to look the harbour and the big "ferries" to Sweden, the (here) deemed beach and to the city center, where again were almost nobody...

And for the way home we only took small (and gravel) roads thru the country and stopped too at the Fjellerup beach.
For dinner we made a good barbecue.

This saturday, as the wetaher is rainy again, we have free. In the morning, we went to take breakfast with Knud's family at the next village (Uggelhuse) day. It was a good eggs and bacon breakfast, and Airton and I ate so much, we didn't need to have lunch...

In the afternoon we went a bit shopping and looking at the 'junior lawnmower tractor pulling at the Uggelhuse village's day.

This morning we change bearings from a pulley on the combine, and made some gardens works.

In ths afternoon, as the weather should be well till the weekend, I started to ted the grass straw left. But just when I was finished, rain came again...

With a weather like this, we'll have to dry the wheat. So we took out the grain dryer and make it ready to work and made a test. All the mechanical was good, only the electrical part wasn't working. An electrician will come on monday to try to mend the problem.

We finished cleaning up the place in the front of the workshop, installed 6 hose reels for the compressed air air in the workshop and tried if everthing was proof...We were lucky, we only found one unproof place.
Afterwards, we noticed that the spring barley straw bales were hot...there was too much green grass in the straw. So we took them out of the shed and place them in a silo, before air channels to try to cool them down...

Today wet weather, with a lot of very heavy showers

In the morning we repaired and checked all the lights from the combine (where a lot were broken since a long time and never repaired...).

We spent the afternoon cleaning up the place in front of the workshop, by putting everything togehter (steel, pallets, machines, wood...) and throwing away what useless was.

This night there was a lot of rain...no harvest again.
Airton and I went to the spring barley silo to level it and clean everything. We, too, took some probes to analyse the quality.

In the afternoon, we repaired a broken protection bar from the tedder, installed tail lights on it and build a support for the hydraulic control crane, wich is always standing wrong while working.

Loading of 30 bales grass straw for the bull farm. Afterwards I continued the rowing up of the now dried grass straw till it, again, started to rain... After, we drove all the straw bales (wheat, spring barley, grasseeds) home.

Sunny sunday=worky sunday;-)

While Knud and Airton changed the broken elevator chain from the combine I ted the last grass straw. Then i rowed up what already dry was, wich Airton baled in the afternoon. From 3pm to 10pm I drove spring barley trailers to the silos, in Knud's father's barn (15ha).

This morning I re-ted the grass straw and drove grasseeds trailers home. We are now finished with this last 22ha grasseeds field.
Aterwards we cleaned the combine to start harvest the wheat. Till 11pm (when an elevator chain from the combine broke) we drove wheat trailers home and put it in the storage barn.

Today, better weather, more sunny and windy.
I greased the tedder and ted the grass straw to get it dry. In the afternoon I mowed the lawn and drove a trailer of grasseeds and put them in the silo.

This morning we finished the pavement...You can see the result on the pictures. And after some heavy rains, we saw that everything was working fine, and now, there is no more water coming in when there's heavy rain.
In the afternoon we finished the realignement of the back axle from the bale trailer, connected the compressor to the pipes around the workshop and built some "anti-vibrations" holds for the compressor.

Weather: showers... so we started the day with digging a hole just before the entry door of our flat to install a gutter to avoid, every time it rains, the water coming in... The drain pipes were already in the ground, we just had to install the gutter. After that, we decided to pave around (with some old stones lying in a corner of the farm). We had to make it right that the water flows good into the gutter...We had just time to begin the first row, and the rain came.
Thus, we made the compressor ready to work and continued the realignement of the axle (we had to build some steel pieces to replace old onesn no more available)

This morning we finished to cut the grass and trees near the electric fences of the horses'fields. I think it hasn't been done since a long long time...I started to cut the trees with an axe, but soon I realised I should better use the chainsaw (wich wasn't starting when Airton tried). So I decided to have look by myself...After dismounting, cleaning, sharpening and checking everything, it started well...So I could finish the job easier and faster.

In the afternoon, I finished the mounting of the crompressed air hose around the workshop. Afterwards, we started to realign the back axle of a bale trailer...

Today we, as the weather forecast were good, we wanted to continue the grasseeds harvest, but unfortunately, when we just were ready to start the rain started too...Thus no harvest today.

We did some workshop improvements: repaired the air compressor (tried), started mounting some hoses to get the compressed air in all corners from the workshop and build a rack to suspend all the compressed air tools...

Bad weather, a lot of rain and cold...we couldn't continue the grasseeds harvest. We spend the day at comfortably at home.

Today, the weather wasn't so good but dry with a lot of wind, so we could start harvesting the last field of grasseeds (+/- 22ha). I drove the trailers and put the seeds in the silos while Airton was drinving the cultivator in other fields. We stopped at 9:30pm because of the night humidity.

This morning I build a rotating frame for the high pressure hose reels... Afterwards we made the cultivator ready to work, Airont went on the fields with it.

Knud and I went to Randers Tax office to get me a tax number (I've to pay on my wages)...They're as good as in Belgium...you want 2 hours and finally get nothing!!!! They want some more paperworks...

I spent the end of the afternoon cleaning the silos for the spring barley.

In the evening Airton and I went to Randers by bus, to go to a free music festival...We spent a good evening though the not so good music and the very expensive beers...(30Kr=4€)

Today I cut the grass from the grasseeds field with the mulcher (+/-19ha 6hours). After that I cleaned it...It hasn't been since a long time (months certainly)... There was already some compost on it... It's sad to let the machine become so dirty (and outside under rain...)

I continued to sieve the grasseeds (2 hours) while Airton was spraying Round'Up on wheat. When he came back he took my place to finish the cleaning. In this time I loaded a trailer full of hay for a customer near Aarhus (Lisbjerg). I drove there after lunch.
Afterwards I cleaned up a bit the workshop and helped unloading an old combine from a truck.

This morning we started with the preparation of the seed-drill (to reseed some grass fields)...
After that we made some tests to look if everything worked well.

Than I had to deliver 10 bales hay to a customer near Aarhus (Hesselbale). Everything went ok except that people always say there's a lot of space, but don't have any idea of the tractor size. So this place was very very small for the John Deere and his trailer (the smallest). I couldn't get the bales in the barn and had to borrow their small Schäffer loader to put them in the barn...

In the afternoon we cleaned the last empty grasseeds silos to put the seeds from the last field (wait for the next good weather)

In this time, Knud went to harvest to lines of grasseeds to have some seeds to put in the drill to start drilling tomorrow. But as those seeds weren't that clean to put them directly in the seedmachine, we had to clean them (+/-500kg) with hand sieving....

Very bad weather...We only worked inside on repairing maintaining machines. We cleaned a bit the workshop too...

Et je pense que pour les non initités, quelques informations sur le panneau de commande des principaux intruments d'un tracteur, peut être intéressant...

Morning: long sleep, (good) pre-baked bread)...
Afternoon: I went to Ebeltoft about 35km away from Randers. There I visited an old war sailboat...(http://www.fregatten-jylland.dk/default.aspx?pageID=0&lang=en)
It was very interesting and really impressive...Especially when they shot with an old canon. In war time they shoted with about 3kg explosive powder...for the show they only used 400g...But what an explosion!!!!It must have been the hell when all the canons were shooting at the same time. Enjoy the pictures (more on picasa)!

After this visit I went to see the old city from Ebeltoft...beautiful and much more touristic than Randers.

By the way, the weather was perfect to sail...If only I had a sailboat...

In the evening, Airton had some meat ready to put on the BBQ...With some beers it was very good!

So a nice week-end.

Saturday, bad weather=>free day!! It's good to be able to sleep a bit more than the 2 last weeks ;-)

In the morning, we cleaned completely our flat...It was needed, especially the bathroom that looked seriously bad...

In the afternoon, as the weather seemed to become better, Knud asked us to change a part on the combine to perhaps continue the wheat harvest. But as we were finished it rained again...then no harvest today...

This early morning, we had to get all the machines and old tractors out of the barn where the wheat is coming, and obviously sweep it too...
At 10:30am Knud continued to harvest the rye, and I drove the trailers til the evening, while Airton got the straw bales together and home (baled with a Big Pack baler by a neighbor).

In the evening, as the rye fields were finished (about 25ha), we started with the first field of wheat.

As you can see on the photos, the space to tip the rye is very small and low, we had to be very carefull not to hit the wall (has already been hit, and I think one more could have put it down)... And after each trailer tipped I had go in the grain to level it...I shoveled about 4 hours in 30°C and a lot of grain dust...Shit work! You can see the result on one of the picture
The wheat is tipped in a much better and easier place...

This morning we remounted completely the old Kuhn tedder, and afterwards went to Knud's father to clean the silos where the rye is going...
In the afternoon, I tried to clean, with compressed air, the baler... You can try hours, there'll always be something left, but I did my best...

After that, as Knud has started harvesting the rye, Airton and I drove the grain trailers to the silos.

Free day...that we spent with Knud's family. We went to visit Hjerl Hede (http://www.hjerlhede.dk/en/welcome.htm). This is a "living" museum that shows how the people worked and lived in the past. It was very interesting. There is a play ground with old "games"...and I had a go on a old bicycle...It was very tricky to get working without falling down...

In the evening we were invited to Knud's wife's parents. But before going there (Odby), we drive a beautiful way around in the west part of Denmark...

This morning we drove the grasseeds straw bales to the bulls farm (Viking genetics). 19ha_150bales_+/-325kg each.
In the afternoon, we drove the last hay bales from the last field we mowed (10ha_113 bales_+/-340kg each).
So, today we were finished with this hay harvest. Since last monday, we approwimately made 70ha of hay, 30ha of Luzern hay and harvested +/- 20ha of grasseeds (Ray-Grass)...A lot of work, every day from 7:30am (or early for the luzern) till approximately 9-10pm in the evening, without a really break for lunch...

Every tuesday, in Kalo Slot, there is an oldtimer gathering, near an old 700 years castle surrounded by water, so airton and I wen tover there to have a look at the old very beautiful cars and old castle ruins...It was in the late evening (10pm) and we almost were alone over there, beautiful. And to maintain the grass on a reasonable level there are cows that graze there (mix of Jerseys and Holstein).

I spent my day driving trailers from Luzern bales back home. They were 104 bales of 350kg each on about 29ha. What took the most time was the way (total 4trips) to and from the field, about 30 min in each direction...

Working sunday!

I started at 8:30 am with tedding the last fields. After that I drive to the finished fields to get the bales home, in the shed. On the last journey (20min) Airton touht it would be great to film the traffic jam we make every time we drive on the big road...And the one on the video (unfortunately bad quality...) is very small...it was already 6:30pm, at 12am it can be as long as 2km...

Unloading from a full trailer (30 bales) hay and back again 2 times to get more. In the late afternoon, I rowed up with Knud's father's old Deutz (3,5hours) the grasseeds straw till 9pm.

I started the day with the partly remounting of the Kuhn tedder new transmission axle. Then 4 hours tedding again. After that we had to repair the windrower which one protection bar was broken and risked to fall in the working area and make more damages. Knud started baling the first hay, while Airton was rowing up other fields and I put the bales on the trailer and took them back home.

This morning I greased completely the windrower for his next working hours. Then I drove to the part dealer to get the new axle for the Kuhn tedder and went looking at new fields that were mowed, wich I would have to ted in the afternoon, after going back with the tractor to the Krone dealer workshop to get the repaired tedder. I ted till 10:30pm.

BAD DAY!!!

I woke up at 2h45 and leave here at 3 o'clock to go ted the luzern (30ha). At the 5h30 the tedder broke down (one gable broke after an height regulating bolt from a wheel came off, so the wheel came in the path from the machine and BANG...) Back at home to the workshop to see if we could repair it by ourself, but no...So direction to the next (45min) Krone machines dealer with the tractor and tedder to see if they could mend it quick. Bad luck, they don't have the broken piece. So, back at home, where we worked out an old Kuhn tedder and made it ready to work (without a lot of hope that it'll last...) Back to the luzern field (11AM)...where one of the transmission axle broke after one hour working! Back home...We had no more tedder left, so no tedding anymore today. Airton and I dismounted the machine to take out the broken axle to order a new one...The other tedder which is at the dealer workshop will be repaired about 12am tomorrow...

So a lot of tractor driving on the street, and not a lot of field work...but hopefully in both broke down cases it wasn't my fault...The weather forecast is good, so the hay can wait till tomorrow to be ted again.

In the afternoon Knud started harvesting the Ray-Grass seeds...Airton and I had to fill up the silo. We finished working at 9:30pm.

Hay tedding from 8 to 16o'clock...Afterwards regreasing from the tedder. Next morning, I've to go to the Luzern fields (about 40min away) to ted them. I've to start there at 3h30 in the night to avoid making the blades fall (Have to work when there is still some moisture on the plants). So early in bed!

In the morning we unmounted old grain elevators to put to the scrap. After that, I had to load a trailer with 22 bales of hay to deliver it abou 40km away from Randers. Knud gave me a map where he drawed the way I had to take, but this way was wrong...I had to find the way by myself, however I got stuck in dead end streets (the width froml the tractor) 2 times...and had to backup up and turn arount, alone and with the 10m trailer full of hay. Hopefully the hay came good to the customer and tractor and trailer good back home!!!
In the afternoon, I greased the tedder, Airton started to mowe for hay... The fields are 20min away from the farm. I started there at 16h30 til 21h30.

After long sleeping, the brasilians had to cut their hairs...They did it in the garden, but the weather wasn't so warm... so it was a bit frisky for them. After eating, We went to visit the city center of Aalborg. Nice city, the fourth big from Denmark. As you can see on the pictures, the weather wasn't the best to visit...

This morning we put old balers and trailers together in a clean corner of the farm, so we could mowe the field where they were staying. After, I cut the grass under the electric fences from the horses fields, till the rain came. (the brushcutter is very bad...) Then I cleaned the two silos for the grasseeds, to put the new harvest in it.
In the evening Airton and I drove to Gistrup (Aalborg) to spend the week end by Airtons' brasilians friends, also working in farms.

This morning, a lorry with a vacuum system came to get all the grasseeds we harvested. I had to help the driver to shovel the seeds to the vacuum hose. I shoveled about 2 hours in the heat and dust...After that I sharpened the fingers from the cuting bar of the combine.

In the afternoon, Knud, his daughter Annie, Airton and I went to visit a big farm about 40km away. http://www.overgaardagro.dk/. This farm has +/- 2300ha. Most of them are just below the sea level... We drove thru the fields and visited the different storage facilities for the grain.

The way home we stopped by Knud's friend to have a beer. Then we took the ferry to cross the Randers fjord to get home.

Today, I collected the straw bales and unloaded them in the shed. There were about 120 bales. In the afternoon, I drove the two trailers full of grains left yesterday because of rain.
In the evening, I tried to repair my digital camera...it worked!

This morning I brought a trailer full of grain that we hadn't drive yesterday (it was too late) to the pig farmer. After that, Knud and I worked on the combine (change a belt, add some oil and grease) in order to continue the winter barley harvest in good conditions. Then, we made the baler (Krone Big Pack, Multi Bale) ready to work. After lunch Airton started to press the straw, Knud continued harvesting and I drove the trailers of grain. I the evening, as rain came, we just put the full trailers in the halls and I started to collect the straw on the bale trailers...After one trailer full, the rain stopped, so we decided to let the straw in the field, so it can dry till tomorrow.

This morning we made and mounted the doors for the ventilationduct. After that, we cleaned the combine from all the grasseed, and made it ready for the winter barley (2rows) harvest. In the afternoon Knud began to harvest while Airton and I drove the trailers with the grains to a pig farmer, about 14km away from the field. For each trailer it took about 1 hour... I drove two trailers (7t+ 6,980t). On the pictures you can see some "harvesting actions".

Sunday...

After longer sleeping I wanted to eat some "real" bread. So, as I found in the supermarket, I baked those prebaked bread in the oven. It wasn't so good as the one you find in Belgium but with some chocolate on it, it was almost as good...
For dinner we decided to cook a chicken that was in our freezer. Airton and I hadn't yet baked something like this before, and because he doesn't anything with cooking, I had to decide what to do...You can see the result on the pictures, it was delicious.
After this real good meal, we went to visit the "Dansk Landbrugsmuseum" (agriculture museum) in Gammel Elstrup, 15km away. Sadly, as you can see on the pictures, my camera broke down in the middle of the visit and the last (the most interessant pictures with the combines and old tractors collection) are totaly blurry...and now the camera doesn't want to work anymore (bad, bad, bad). Near this museum there's a castle and park where we had a walk too (the pictures are taken with my cellphone, so not so good...)
Before returning home we decided to try to drive to the coast to go to the beach...without map or gps. So we drive thru the campaign and without loosing us we arrived on the beach. The weather wasn't good enough to take a bath...You can see how it looks on the pictures.
After the beach walk we returned home...

Saturday, free day.

In the late morning Airton and I went to visit Randers... The weather wasn't so good, but we had chance and didn't become wet. Randers is the 7th biggest city in Denmark... There are beautiful narrow streets and old colourful houses. The church is very impressive too...not big but looks very rich on the inside... And because Randers as a Harbour, we had to take a walk thru it...On the pictures you can see how it looked like.
On this saturday I did my first laundry too...everything went good, except for a white t-shirt I put with the other colour working clothes...it just became greyer than before, but it's not important because it's an old working t-shirt. But now I know, for the cleaning of my good clothes...
In the evening I had to sew my working suit, which one strap broke.
After that Airton and I played some table tennis.

Today, rain again.
We finished the place to pour the new concrete. We pour about 1,5m³ concrete and equalized it. It took us the whole morning to be finished (only 0,5m³ concrete mixer...).
In the afternoon we build some wood frames in the ventilationconduct, in order to be able to put in doors to seperate the different silos while ventilating the grasseeds, with one or two fans.

Inside work:
Demolition of an old ceiling. We rebuild the radiator from the excavator and finished the concrete demoltion and prepared the place for new concrete.

This morning we finished the demolition of the concrete base from the grain silo. We didn't finish all. We're waiting the new radiator for the excavator to break the last concrete.
In the afternoon, the sun was shining so we were asked walk in the wheat fields to snatch with the hands the wild oat...We walked the whole afternoon on surface of approximately 40ha.

In the last field, at the end there's a humpback where I could see this...

After climbing on it, I discovered that the river from Randers to the sea where just flowing behind this humpback. On this river pass a lot of commercial boats and sailing boats.

Rainy day again...
We start the demolition of an old small grain silo. The top was in wood and relatively easy to demolish, but the base was in concrete (done by the farmer so very hard...) We spent the all afternoon with the demolition hammer (+/- 45kg) to get it down...In the evening the arms and hands were a little bit hurting...

Rainy day...so inside work in the workshop. First we cleaned the excavator, to try to find where the cooling system was leaking. After discovering that the radiator had a hole in it, we had to build it out.
After that we made a protecting and transport frame for the bale balance and built some boxes fixed to the trailers to put the fixing straps in it when not in use.

After that a good cleaning up from the workshop was necessary.

Normally, on saturday and sunday I don't need to work, but when it's harvesting time, there's no more free days or work schedule...So today we press the straw (Knud) and Airton and I drove it from the field to the Vikingsgenetics center who use the straw for the bulls. From the field I rowed up, we had 108 bales (+/-375kg each), so there was 4 trailers {one can transport 30 bales (18+12)}.

Today we finished the filling of the grasseeds silos. After that I cleaned the interior of the Deutz DX90 (wich was very dirty!!!), because I had to take it to row up the straw of the grasseeds. Now, we've almost a new tractor! After cleaning, Airton and I manufactured a stand for the bale trailer.
At 15h i started the rowing up till 20h45 (14ha). What a view while working...

I went shopping too, I bought some food, because I've to make the cooking for myself. It isn't easy to find what you want....I hope I've everything to survive till the next time I've time to go shopping!

Belgium-Denmark trip

On July first, at 07h20 I left Verviers for the 882km trip to Randers, Denmark. The journey was wonderful, no traffic and beautiful weather. I arrived in Randers, on Bay-Smidt's farm at 16h35.
There, I've been welcomed by Knud and his co-worker from Brazil, Airton. They showed me the farm and the flat where I'll live for the next two months.
After unloading the car and undoing my luggages, Airton and I were invited to take supper with Knud, his wife and son.
On the pictures, you can see where the farm is and some views of my flat there.
